Subject: DOCTOR WHO, JESSE AND JEREMY 181 DOCTOR WHO, JESSE AND JEREMY 181 GOODBYE, CHRIS TROUSDALE “The base is steady.” Jeremy, tall, blond, good looking and well dressed, stood up straight after reading panel A1 on the hexagonal console in the middle of the large control room of the TARDIS. “Thank you, Jeremy, but I knew that already,” the Doctor said as he flitted about the console room. “Well, okay but you didn’t seem as if you did.” To the side of him, another blond, good looking blue eyed boy, Jesse, added. “We’ve landed.” “I know that, too.” The Doctor tried to keep his voice steady and not angry. “But we didn’t hear the sound of us materializing,” Jesse put forth. “I thought that weird, too,” Jeremy added. “You two have been with me too long…” The Doctor sighed. He looked up at their drooped faces. He realized what his statement did to them. The brightness in their eager, young faces faded quickly. They seemed to sag. The Doctor recovered and shook himself. “…to know that we always come through together no matter the fault of the TARDIS is when landing. We always make the best of it.” He smiled at them both, careful to make eye contact. This had the effect he wanted and they cheered. “Where are we?” Jeremy asked, being opposite the Doctor, the console between them. “Jesse, check the yearometer.” The Doctor waved a hand as he looked at the oxygen register. “It’s…ahhh, on panel A3.” “I know where the yearometer is.” It was Jesse’s turn to get angry. “Even if…” as he looked with growing disappointment at the rectangular read out tube on the console, he knew he shouldn’t be surprised. “…if it doesn’t.” “What?” The Doctor came to his side to look at it. He turned a dial. “Nothing.” “Nothing?” Jeremy joined them on their side of the console. “Wadda mean nothing?” Jesse put his hands out in front of him. “Nothing.” “No year.” Jeremy squinted. “Doctor, does that mean the same thing it does when it happened to us like twice, three times before?” “No, no, no.” The Doctor put an arm around each of their backs and led them toward the doors. “The read out reads just like Earth. Radiation normal, well normal for Earth. A fair amount of pollution but we might not be in the 21st century as it’s a bit lower than it should be for that age, maybe much earlier like pre-history or much farther when you all left here and left it to recover its own air so to speak—ha. There must be a fault in the yearometer and the scanner since they’s not operating properly —it could be clogged up dust and other things…we were once in the middle of a lava flow, a planet, and a lot of snow and now this pollution…but the oxygen detector and planetary read out here and now is just fine for human life. At least for, oh, about a billion years or five.” “But you’re not even sure we are on Earth?” Jesse asked, darting his eyes sideways to see Jeremy but getting a look at the Doctor’s face instead. “No! And isn’t that just the fun of it all?” Outwardly one frowned, inwardly the other did, their reactions just the opposite. “We love adventure Doc…” “Jer, don’t call me Doc, how many times have I…” “Don’t call me, Jer. On second thought, I like Jer.” “I don’t like Doc.” “We love Doc…” Jesse got involved. “..tor…” he added, seeing the Doctor’s smile drop and give him a nasty scowl instead. The Doctor smiled and kissed his cheek. “C’mon, the pair of you troublemakers. Let’s see where we are…” As he led them to the door, he realized he forgot to hit the red lever on the side facing the door. He left them, almost causing them to fall toward each other’s side, for he moved quickly. They stumbled and just about touched heads. Jesse frowned but Jeremy did less of that and giggled. By the time they recovered, he was back and the doors swung open. The inner doors, big bulky affairs, opened in ward and they stepped into the foyer between the interior of the TARDIS and the exterior. The thin doors on the exterior opened inward, also. Once outside, on a hot day, the Doctor used the handles to close both doors. He locked it. “MMMMM, feel that heat. Love it,” he stretched, his shirt coming up a bit so that his tight abs were showing. “Mmmm, smell that smog.” Jeremy mocked. “Feels like home.” There was a circular building not far from the building wall where the TARDIS was tucked into a dark shadowy corner. “Home Goods?” Beyond that was a street with light traffic and a small parking lot. The building the TARDIS was up against was extremely large, over 100 feet or more high, and rectangular. Imposing. In front of the TARDIS was an outdoor lunch area which, given the shiny day, was empty of people. “This…this place looks familiar.” Jesse squinted and put his hand over his eyes to look around toward the street. “At least it’s not the old west,” Jeremy joked. “No camping trip from hell again.” “NO!” Jesse said. “Don’t even remind me.” “It…it seems familiar to me, too.” Jeremy looked around. As a doctor in blue scrubs passed by with a nurse, both holding what seemed to be lunch, the boys noticed something the Doctor did not. He was looking at the doors and brushing them off with an outrageously multi colored tie that he gave a double look at after he pulled it from one of his tight pants pockets. He was cleaning the doors and talking, more to himself. “It was the pollution that did this to her. The scanner I mean, of course. Of course, the read out read that at this time, the pollution’s not what it was. I mean it’s a lot lower than what 21st century Earth should be and I suppose that’s a mystery we’ll have to check…I really should get this 500 to 1000 year checkup. I do it meself you see…” He looked up at the roof. “I think I have to change that light in the top, too. But it’s the scanner up there I have to really clean. It’s not supposed to be blocked by the atmospheric conditions outside, you know…” While he went on, Jesse and Jeremy saw more people coming in and out of the hospital. Apparently the TARDIS was parked in the concrete corner of one of the many attached buildings of a huge hospital. Jesse squinted at the sign. “Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. I DO know this place.” Each person the two boys saw wore some kind of mask over their mouth and nose, held on by straps over their ears. They also noticed rubber gloves of a kind. Some wore more elaborate masks than others. “Burbank. Cally. We’re in Burbank, California.” “Yeah but it’s not as crowded as it should be in full day…it looks like it might be early morning?” Jesse looked around. More doctors went by. The Doctor was cleaning the plague on the TARDIS. “It’s moved again. It should be on the left side.” “Doctor,” Jeremy said, absently and not looking at him but at more people, some of them maybe staff or visitors but there seemed to be less visitors for a metro hospital. “There are a lot of doctors here…” “Oh no!” The Doctor said as he rubbed his tie all over the seemingly metallic glaze of the door handles on the TARDIS. “Not those disheveled little fellows and that tall pair, you know the ones with shockingly white hair and then the curly shag one? I don’t think I can take another adventure with more of meee…” He turned. “We love all of youse…you…you…all you…you all?” Jesse said absently as he watched more people. “Doc…tore…why are they all wearing masks?” “Oh dear.” The Doctor said as he took in the same sights. “Did you just say oh dear? I don’t like it when you say oh dear,” Jesse addressed. “Me, either or me, too.” “And I thought my troubles were to be the TARDIS exitonic circuitry. We should go. Now. We should leave immediately…” “Why?” Jeremy put a hand on the Doctor’s shoulder to calm him. “I can’t believe I forgot…” “Forgot what?” Jesse turned to him. “Masks? Gloves? What’s the deal?” “This must be 2020…” The Doctor said. “Feels like…” He went to a wall of the hospital near the TARDIS and licked it. “Must be June…early…sum…” An African American woman, a nurse, saw this. She came within six feet of them and stopped, deliberately. “Man, you crazy, man? You know better than to do that? With this covid 19 virus all around.” “Co…vi…what?” Jesse asked. “How you been on Mars?” “A bit ago but not just recently,” Jesse answered. Jeremy turned to move toward her but noticed she backed away so he stopped. “We just got into town. We’ve been traveling for a time. Can you tell us the date?” “The date? June 3rd.” “2020?” Jeremy asked. “Boys, are you trippin?” “No, please.” Jesse looked his most innocent. “June 3rd, 2020?” “Yeeee…sah.” She backed away again, looking at them as if they were insane or disorientated but as Jesse moved slightly closer, thanking her twice, she came just a micro faction closer. “You both look…famil…oh, oh. I’m sorry about your friend.” “You know me?” Jesse asked. “You was on MYSTERY SINGER, just last month…you should’ve won…” “Yes, my good woman,” the Doctor said quickly as he strode toward her, bursa yabancı escort deliberately so she would back off and leave. She kept watching them as she left, her head turned toward them. “I hope she doesn’t report us.” Jesse followed her with his eyes, keeping them as tame looking as possible so as to look harmless. “Apart from the fact that there is this…virus that’s been killing a lot of people…” “Our families!” Jeremy gasped. “They’ll be okay…” “How do you know that?” Jesse turned the Doctor around physically. “How do…” He looked at the Doctor’s seriousness now. The Doctor tilted his head. “We have been with you long…” “Okay, I did check just after you joined me.” “Saved yo ass,” Jesse joked. The Doctor didn’t respond. He couldn’t really look at them. He looked down. “Is this one of those times that you tried to cure it and couldn’t…” “Yes. I tried again and again and again but it’s just one of those things, one of those times that it just wasn’t meant to be. There were other times I could do it in a cinch. Saved everyone and no one even knew it. Viruses, bacteria, wars, alien microbes, alien giants, the works. But sometimes, and I don’t even understand it, I mean even I don’t…” He turned to Jeremy who was looking down at the cement floor. “It’ll be all right but…aside from the fact that this is a bit in your future, your families will all come through this. Many will not.” “She said something about a friend of mine…” Jesse asked. “And that I was on some show?” His voice told Jeremy that that hadn’t happened yet. “Well, I was getting to that. Cor. I…you…will be. Aside from the fact that this is a bit ahead of your time, you will return here and go on that show during one of our little visits home to revisit your career…” he turned to Jeremy and added, “Careers.” “And I don’t win.” “You’re not supposed to know that. That woman…” he snarled in the direction she took off in even though she was already gone. “She didn’t know…” Jeremy defended her. “So we should go?” “Yes, there are two Jesses walking around this time, maybe more. And probably one or two of you, too, Jer…emy.” Jeremy forced a smile. “How many people?” “Uh…your families and friends…most of them…” “I…uh…most of them?” “All of your families…of both of you are safe. There is one…” “Mine. She said she was sorry about one of my friends…” “Yes, Jesse.” As Jesse did to him before, the Doctor put his hands on Jesse’s shoulders. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry.” Jesse put his hands over the Doctor’s hands on his own shoulders. He moved them down to the middle of the Doctor’s arms and moved his arms down to draw the Doctor closer to him. “Just tell me who.” “I can’t remember his name…” “You can’t remember his name…” “I’m sorry…” The Doctor said. “Perhaps K9…” Jesse sighed and turned away. “I can’t believe this.” “It’s like a nightmare.” Jeremy turned to the outside of the mini outdoor lunch area they were in, where the TARDIS was parked in a shady corner. “How many, Doctor?” “By this month? Many will recover…” Jesse looked up into the sky. “OH GAWD, will you just answer him?” He turned to look at the Doctor who, this time, looked him in the eyes. “About 361 thousand and roughly 500.” “What?” Jeremy whispered. “What?” “What?!” Jesse yelled, and some passerby doctors and aides turned to look at them. “About 110 thousand in the US. 39 thousand in the UK. All roughly speaking.” The Doctor was talking carefully as if at any moment one of them would punch him. Which, in Jesse’s case might happen. “Roughly speaking,” mimicked Jesse as he turned again and looked up at the sky. “I’m going to find out who…” Jeremy made a move toward the building. The Doctor grabbed his arm. “Uh-uh. K9. In the TARDIS. I mean I’m not worried about you, the TARDIS will shield you from the disease and if you get it, cure you…” “Hey, then can’t you…?” Jeremy started. “I’m telling you. I tried. It was a long time ago now. I think I was with Susan or even before that. I tried every which way to get…it cured but nothing worked.” “I know…” Jeremy said and glanced at Jesse’s back. Jesse turned around and was behind the Doctor, who had turned to Jeremy. Jesse looked at Jeremy and locked eyes with him and nodded YES. “We know.” The Doctor turned to Jesse and looked a bit happier. Jesse nodded yes to him. The Doctor hugged him and Jesse hugged him back. Over the Doctor’s shoulder, Jesse whispered to Jeremy. “Find out quick, please.” A quick into the TARDIS and to K9, who was recharging himself again, and Jeremy came back out. His voice broke as he tried to talk to the Doctor and Jesse who just broke their hug off. “Kr…kri…” Jesse’s eyes welled up. If Jeremy were about to release the flood gates, it was bad. “Jussss…” “Chris Trousdale…” “Wot? No. He must…” a tear dropped from both boys. Then from both eyes. “He must be about…” “He was…34…just about a week and a half away from his 35th birthday…” “That’s right…” Jesse cried. “His birthday was in June…” Jeremy moved at Jesse and opened his arms and hugged him, “C’mere…I’m so sorrr…” He could not talk. They both could feel each other’s deep shaking of grief as they sobbed. The Doctor just stood there watching. He then looked away as they both cried for what seemed like a long time. Two women passed by in scrubs. One sounded angry. “Social distancing! C’mon, guys, try to save old people!” The other woman was kinder. “Keeping six feet away does prevent it from spreading to…are you visitors?” The Doctor tried to keep cheerful. “Uh, we live together…” The women eyed them. “Good for you, good for you,” the mean one, a redhead, said, sounding sincere and meaning it. “But the rest of us need you all to distance yourself…” “We…we, ahh, we’ve been tested and cleared.” “It takes only…” Jesse broke from Jeremy. “WE KNOW WHAT IT TAKES.” “Old people?” Jeremy asked the mean one. “I just lost a 34 year old friend of mine.” Jesse said. The kinder woman, a brown haired middle aged woman, said, “Was he like a father figure to you?” “I know you. You’re Jesse McCartney from MYSTERY SINGER! You should have won.” “I don’t care about that!” “Yeah Mill, that was…” “I’m sorry. Life does go on.” Jeremy stepped forward. “I think you should go.” “I think YOU should go.” The kinder one became mean, too, now. “You can’t see him. He’s probably not here any longer and besides…” “I really think you should go.” The Doctor moved toward them. “We will but you will be, too.” The kind one took out a cell phone and a beeper. “Security.” The first one, the meaner one, as they walked away, sort of became the nicer one. “Sorry for your loss.” As they moved off, Jesse gave them the middle finger, first with his left hand, then with his second and then put one arm in the other, bent it and gave them the finger that way, switching arms and hands. It was an Italian form of cursing. “Fuck you two cunts.” “Let’s go.” The Doctor put on his deep voice. His “I mean it” it voice. He put an arm on Jesse’s bicep. Jesse, at first resisted but knew he shouldn’t. When the Doctor deepened his voice, he meant business. “I want to see him.” “You heard them. He’s not here.” “But…” “Not buts about it. And security is here…I can see them coming through the glass…if they stop us, it’ll delay our going to see him and his family…” Jeremy put an arm on Jesse’s other bicep. “Ellll, nice bicep.” This made Jesse laugh. “You know it is.” “Now, come on, both of you, into the TARDIS. It brought us here for a reason. It usually seems to.” “Other than just being faulty.” “That, too!” The Doctor swung their threesome around and toward the doors as FIVD security men rushed out of the doors and came running at them, shouting and with stazers. The Doctor manipulated the three of them through the doors after unlocking it. They rushed in and the doors slammed just as the men reached it, only a few feet from the doors. The men backed away as they heard the sound of the engines roaring up. “What the…” “What are they doing in there?” The door opened. “Fucking, what else do you think we do in there?” Jeremy had opened the door again…the one on the guards’ right. “Gosh, over kill much?” Jeremy said as he stuck his head out one last time. He slammed the door shut even as the sound continued of dematerialization. “We will never tell anyone about this.” “Agreed.” “About what?” “That we’re insane?” Inside, the Doctor smacked Jeremy’s arm. “OW!” He admonished him. “Don’t ever open the doors while I’m dematerializing or taking off! You know better…” “I know but they just pissed me off!” Jeremy said and then nodded at Jesse, who was on the side of the console away from them. He had pressed himself against it, facing it, holding onto the sides with his hands, his head down in grief, his face moving as he sobbed. Then, he turned around, bursa sınırsız escort his back to it and them …sideways to them…and leaned on it, sighing and looking up. Jeremy meant to knock the Doctor out of his tirade and focus on Jesse…not to distract the Doctor out of berating him but to get the Doctor to help distract Jesse. The Doctor caught on quickly this time and moved to Jesse. “Tell me about him.” Jesse turned to look at him. K9 had fired beams to stop the tears. “K9, what the hell?” “Drying tears, Master.” “Thanks.” “Tell us about him,” The Doctor said, repeating in a way. In answer to Jesse’s stare, he tilted his head. “Oh, I know the facts, sort of a bit…but…I want to know what you …to know him the way you did, the way you felt about him. The personal touch, you might say.” Jeremy joined them. Jesse moved to the sedan chair and sat in it, cross legged. The Doctor and Jeremy knelt on either side. “We were in a band Dream Street, me, there was Greg Raposo, Matt Ballinger and Frankie Galasso. All of em, hot. I mean Chris…” Jesse smiled and it wasn’t forced. “He was the hottest of them. I was really into him. I don’t think he ever knew that. Though…” “You think he might have been gay, too?” “I don’t know. Not sure. I mean there were always girls around him, you know. He could’ve been bi. I don’t know but he was always so hot and always so shirtless…” he forced a laugh. “I used to look at his pictures for hours…” Jesse puffed out. “So now what? Can we go to his funeral?” He tried to stand up but both the Doctor and Jeremy caught him before he passed out forward. “Whoa,” Jeremy stated as he sat him back down. “Sorry, I didn’t realize…I was that unsteady…I shouldn’t be…” “You’ve had a…a great shock. One we don’t always expect when we leave those doors…” “And then we leave them all behind. Our families. Our friends…all, I mean Jeremy and I and humans except…” “I’ve left people behind…” the Doctor said, absently. He looked at Jesse, directly. In the eyes. “But this isn’t about me…you asked what’s next…” “Master I have blown the scanner…” “What?” The Doctor turned on his heels, still kneeling. “Scanner and all needed systems up to par.” “Uh, now’s not the time, K…” “No, that’s perfect,” Jeremy said and winked at the Doctor. “K9’s just given the scanner a blow job from the inside, quite a feat I can tell you. And…” “And?” Jesse asked, blinking from the chair. “We’re about to do something very, very bad…” The Doctor stated matter of factly. “CDC!” The Doctor, a mask over his nose and mouth, in a white lab coat sauntered though the ward. “Open these at once…” To either side were Jesse and Jeremy, also in scrubs. Jesse held an oxygen respirator and Jeremy held a clipboard. “May I see…” the male nurse stopped all three of them. He was a big imposing African man, clean, clean cut but he blocked practically the entire hospital ward room. The Doctor held out the psychic paper. “Oh, yeah, almost forgot, mate…” “Go on in, and show that at the room, too.” “Oh yeah, sure, thanks.” “You from the UK?” “I am. Usually.” The Doctor looked back as he strode through the opening double doors. Jesse and Jeremy quickly followed him. “That’s psychic paper!” Jeremy gasped with joy. “Shhhh, not so loud. It won’t work if that’s the word on their mind.” “I think they have other things on their minds,” Jesse looked around to sheer anxiety and nervousness but professionalism as doctors and nurses and other hospital staff moved about, trying to save lives while keeping their own coverages on and about, to keep their own loved ones safe when they went home some eight hours later. “BUT…” He whispered, “I wonder why you don’t use that stuff more often. It’d save us all a lot of trouble and time if you…” Jeremy had a mischievous look in his eyes and even though they couldn’t see his mouth, they knew a great big smile graced it. “Probably lost it for a bit.” “Or it didn’t work properly…” Jesse said. “That room…that’s what K9 found…” the Doctor pointed a gloved finger at it. “He’s in there.” “You know, Jesse. I didn’t have to come. He’s your friend.” “We’ve been all through that. I wanted you to. I needed you to. Need support.” “Certainly, the Doctor… Jesse turned to stare Jeremy down as the Doctor moved faster ahead of them. “Okay, okay. I get it.” In the room, the Doctor showed a female nurse the paper. “Give us five. We just want to make sure…it’s a spot check, you see.” The nurse was Asian. “We’re all doing what we’re supposed to.” “I can see that. But we need a moment to uh, check this fellow’s uh, spot…” Jesse had already moved over to the bed. His friend was on the oxygen and breathing badly, even on it. Jesse bent over and Chris’s eyes went wide. Jesse put a finger to his own mouth to silence him. He put a hand over Chris’s forehead. It was burning hot. Jesse fought back the tears in his eyes. “I’m sorry I…haven’t been on touch…or a good…” Chris smiled. “I don’t have long. I know that.” “Chris,” Jesse took his hand. He had taken his gloves off and his mask. “I knew it was you, even before you took em off. Thanks for coming. No one’s really allowed. I saw my mom virtually a few…my family…will you check on mom from time to time. She’s not well, you know…” Jesse leaned into the bed. “Still thinking of others before yourself. I wish I could be like that…” “Hey, I saw you on TV. I wish I could be like that.” “Oh, that. That was so long ago.” “Yeah and look at ya, you haven’t changed a bit…” “Chris…” “I was proud of you. Came out on National TV. Is that your boy? I mean man?” Jeremy turned from watching the doors which the Doctor had put a motion screen over, dragging it from a corner. He waved. “Jeremy. Hullo!” “Wish I was as brave as the two of you.” “Chris…” “I don’t know how you guys got up here but I’m glad to see someone …kay, I mean these guys are so good here, really down to earth and…they even set me up with a computer I can post on Instagram and Twitter from…but they’re all really strangers, you know. It’s good to have…” “Someone you know…knew…” Jesse felt bad. “Know. I know you. Just because we were out of touch doesn’t mean I don’t know how you felt about me and how I felt about you. Band mates are forever.” He coughed. They clasped hands in a band hand shake. “Maybe we shouldn’t…be there at all?” “Fuck that, dude, I’m so glad to see you. I know I matter…at least until I die…” Jesse kissed his hand. “No, now, none of that man…” “Aren’t you afraid of…?” “Listen I’ll have you know that you will go on. We go on. All of us. NO matter what religious fuck tards say. Every one of us goes to that better place. For some it IS a rocky road and a learning experience. I mean even that cunt Hitler is at a lower level, learning what a shit maniac he was and experiencing, for a time, the hurt he laid on others…” “I’m dying and you’re talking about laying Hitler?” “You always did have a great sense of humor…” “Yeah, and hot abs…” “Oh, yeah. That goes without saying.” “Bet I can steal your boyfriend from you.” “Boyfriends.” “I…uh…both of them?” “Yeah…” Jesse blushed. “I want them…that one…” Jeremy waved. “You can.” “We’re, uh, open…” the Doctor moved to the other side of the bed and was checking vitals and put a stethoscope to Chris’s chest. He looked serious. “Open? You mean you can fuck whoever you want?” “Yeah…” Jesse blushed. “Hi,” Jeremy waved. “I like him. He’s funny.” “I never laugh at him,” Jesse joked. They all laughed, even the Doctor. “Is your friend, a Doctor?” “Yes, in a manner of speaking.” Jesse said. “Listen, though. Listen to me. I know. We’ve encountered, Jeremy and I and my Doctor friend here, things that give us proof that you’re going on an adventure that to you on your side of things, we will be following you shortly.” “Don’t give me…I believe but…” “No, it’s true. I didn’t believe for a long time.” The Doctor said. “But when you fight the devil often enough, you’re convinced there IS a God.” Chris blinked. Jesse shut his eyes, too. He kept them closed. “Doc, that’s not very…convincing…” The Doctor leaned in. He whispered to Chris. “I loathe when he calls me Doc. And you know your friend…he keeps on doing it.” Chris laughed but coughed. “He even got the good one, over there, Jeremy, you’ve met him, to do it, too.” “He IS very persuasive.” Chris laughed. “Then let me persuade you of this…” Jesse took the stethoscope from the Doctor’s ears and put them on Chris’s ears. “He knows what he’s talking about. He, well, he IS an alien.” “Come…” Chris stopped in his statement as Jesse moved the scope from one side of the Doctor’s chest to the other. “Did you just? Does he have…?” “Two boyfriends?” The Doctor stood up straight and blinked happily. “Yeah. Two of those.” “What else does he have two of?” görükle escort Chris asked. “Mmmmm,” the Doctor put a hand on Chris’s abs. “I know what you have ten of.” Chris smiled up at the Doctor. “You…you’re wonderful aren’t you…to them? To my Jesse?” As the Doctor humble as possible said, “I suppose I am,” both Jeremy and Jesse said, at the same time, “He is.” After another laugh, the Doctor put a hand on Chris’s stomach and then his legs. “I’m sorry.” “Me, too. I like you and you and you…well, maybe not you,” he snarled at Jesse. They all laughed. “So guess with all your alien-ness,” Chris turned serious again. “I guess you still can’t do much to save me or stop this?” “I did try. More than once. And just between trips between finding out….well, I …we tried recently, too.” “Thank you. For all of that…”” “Sometimes there are things that…well, we’ve written into our life plans before we incarnate on Earth as humans…we come from and go back to Heaven…that we don’t always get here. It teaches us things that we take with us when we go…” Jesse could see Chris rolling his eyes. “Chris, please believe us…” “Why, Jeremy over there met Jesus…” “What?” Jeremy came forward. “I did. I really did. It was…uhm… he’s very real. He was very kind and…yet powerful at the same time.” “Just proves he was a man but…” “No. I also saw him after he died…” Jeremy said. “He really did go to hell for us and rose again. That doesn’t exclude anyone from heaven, though, everyone goes BECAUSE he did that.” “Wow. An alien and a prophet…” The Doctor gave Jesse a look and then looked at and tapped his wrist watch. Jesse’s eyes grew watery. Jesse leaned in and took the mask off Chris. He leaned his mouth into Chris’s. “Jesse, aren’t you…and they…aren’t you guy worried you’ll…” “Nah, shhh, now. Our …our time space machine sees to it that we don’t catch or keep anything that we do catch…we can’t…I always wanted to do this to you…” Jesse leaned in and shut his eyes and kissed Chris on the mouth. Chris, for his part, shut his eyes and leaned into the kiss as much as he could. He opened his eyes eventually and the kiss persisted. Jeremy forced a smile. The Doctor stared and for a bit, he went teary eyed, too. Then his gaze grew distant. Eventually, he looked at the doors. He saw feet under the curtain. “Jess…” Jesse finally broke the kiss and put the oxygen mask back on Chris and then cloth mask back on himself. Chris seemed very happy as he leaned back. The Doctor put a hand on Chris’s stomach. “I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry. But know what we told you here is true. We WILL see you again. I know it. All of us will see all of us again. Time will go by so fast for you there, that when we finally make the voyage to you…it will seem like a few days or less…for us we have to take the long way there…” “I’m so lucky, then…” “To go now?” “To have a friend like him.” He nodded toward Jesse who held his hand on the side of the bed he was on. Jesse was crying now. He tried to hide it. “Softy. Ole softy he was.” Chris laughed. “Thank you for coming. You should get outta here now before they bring you up on charges or something…” “I love you…” “Ditto.” “Goodbye Chris Trousdale…” “Goodbye Jesse…Jeremy, Doctor.” “See you soon,” the Doctor saluted. “Good man, taking care of your mum.” “Love that you Brits call moms mums.” “About us being here, mums the word.” “Who’am’ I gonna tell? The arch angels?” “I’m sorry, again.” The Doctor patted his legs and moved to Jeremy who put an arm around his back. Jeremy moved to Chris and kissed his cheek. “Goodbye.” “Take care of my pal there. I wish it could be me.” “Maybe someday…in our futures…” “Or the past…” Chris said. Jesse and Jeremy looked at each other. “What do you mean?” “He’s a time traveler isn’t he? You all are?” “How’d…?” “I…I just know…you might find out in your future but in my past…” “Guys, we are pushing it,” The Doctor looked behind the curtain. They all waved at Chris. Nurses and doctors came in and the trio pushed past them. “All in dandy candy shape,” the Doctor said as he strode toward the elevators. “Dandy candy?” Jeremy asked Jesse. “Is he kidding?” A few days later they attended Chris’s funeral. Jesse asked, “What? That’s how we’re doing funerals?” “Yes, we’re also…not touching ourselves…” the Doctor put a finger in the air to preach. “What?” Jesse asked. “Remember if you see yourself, don’t touch yourself.” Jeremy gawked. “I never touch myself at funerals.” The Doctor moved ahead of Jeremy as Jesse took off, shaking his head. “That’s not what I heard.” People came in, 15 at a time, six feet apart, said their goodbyes at the coffin, those that kneeled had to wipe down the bench in front of the coffin…Jesse and Jeremy kneeled; the Doctor stood with hands clasped together in front of his crotch, behind the two of them. There were no chairs. Everyone wore gloves and masks. In the dead end street near the funeral home where the TARDIS was parked it was getting dark. Night fell quickly and quietly. They trio stopped at the doors of the TARDIS as K9 remotely opened them from inside. “Thank you, K!” The Doctor smiled at his metallic pal from outside the doors, K9 being inside the doors and in the bridge between the interior bigger doors and the thinner TARDIS exterior outer doors. “This was some horrid year, wasn’t it?” Jeremy asked. “Yes.” The Doctor turned from smiling at K9. He put an elbow on Jeremy’s shoulder and a hand on Jesse’s arm. Jesse was staring at the funeral parlor. The other two looked at him. “Doctor, we wanna both check out how our families are and then…” “Then?” “I need some alone time…” The Doctor’s face fell. “You’ll be going off then…?” “No, alone time in the TARDIS…” The Doctor brightened and Jesse suddenly turned to him, his arm moving from under the Time Lord’s hand, and he kissed him on the lips. When he broke, he said, “Thank you for doing this.” His voice also almost broke and he had tears coming down his face. The Doctor wiped both sides of Jesse’s face. “Anything for my Dream Street original.” “The band split in 2002 as our parents sued band the makers of it…I’ll never forgot their names… Louis Baldonieri and Brian Lukow—-I didn’t think it was any big deal …” “Course, not, cause you’re a pervert,” The Doctor winked at Jeremy who was lounging on the couch near the console. Jeremy held his right leg and let his left hang over. “…you knew?” “I know almost everything about you two, now. Sued over the boys being ‘exposed to booze, women, and pornography’.” “Uhm, and some of that involved guys. BUT then I didn’t go near that stuff, even though I think I always wanted guys over gals.” “I bet,” Jeremy joked. He looked at Jesse’s stern face and winked. Jesse winked back. “Our parents won the civil case and we were all released from their contracts. I have to say, though, we had…” Jesse’s brow furrowed to a devilish look. “…a lot of fun…” Jeremy threw his head back and rolled his eyes. “I bet. Wish I was there…” “Hey, you can be!” “Hey, let’s go…” “Uhm, no. I have another place where we can go. It’ll cheer us up…” “Doc, no. I just need to rest now.” “Jesse, that’s not like…” Jeremy jumped up and got behind the Doctor. “Let him rest. I’m game, though, if it’s okay, Jes?” “Yeah, sure. No sense in not being cheered up…I know you support me and Chris himself and I love you for it. I just need …after everything before and then this…you know, the whole Lewis and Clark thing and then that other stuff and now this with Chris…” “I know. I know, man. I’ll sit this one out, too, if …” “No, don’t. Take him where you want to go, Doctor. I’ll be with you guys on the next one…just need some time to sleep and be…” “I gotcha,” The Doctor said. “Well, we have to get changed for where we’re going and I still have to set it all up here so…tell me more about him…” “Chris?” “Yeah.” “Yeah, I’d like to hear as well.” “Trousdale went solo through the Disney Channel before putting his career on the back burner to care for sick mother. He later went on to have television role son Lucifer, Austin something that would take the rest of us days. I truly envied him as a performer. We were a part of something people never get to experience in an entire lifetime at the tender ages of 12 and 14. Although we were a band for only 3 years, at that age, it felt like a lifetime and we built a real brotherhood. In later years, we would grow apart as our lives would take different turns, but I would often reflect on our early days together and think about how exciting it all was. My deepest sympathies go out to his mother whom I know cherished him dearly. RIP Chris. I’ll never forget your smile. Goodbye, Chris Trousdale, my friend, see you soon. From your perspective, it will be really soon but from mine it will not be soon enough. See you in a bit.” DreamStreet ChrisTrousdale. “Yesterday, before his death, Chris participated in Blackout Tuesday and showed his support for Black Lives Matter by posting a single black tile on his Instagram account.” “He captioned his post: “theshowmustbepaused” “Goodbye, Chris Trousdale. See you soon…”
